Standard Functional Specifications for Law Enforcement Released
RMS coverThe Law Enforcement Information Technology Standards Council (LEITSC) program, which fosters growth, strategic planning and implementation of integrated justice systems, has completed validation of the standard functional requirements for records management systems (RMS). These specifications are designed to assist law enforcement agencies in the design and procurement of agency RMS. These tools provide significant guidance to agencies developing a RFP for purchasing or upgrading records management systems. They are designed to inform law enforcement about the basic functional requirements that all RMS should have in order to achieve interoperability. The RMS Standard Functional Specifications is available for download.

RMS Technical Assistance Available
LEITSC offers Technical Assistance to law enforcement agencies that are in the process of procuring or updating a Computer Aided Dispatch system or Records Management System. The technical assistance is driven by an agency’s use of the Standard Functional Specifications for Law Enforcement RMS. LEITSC is able to provide technical assistance and expertise that a law enforcement agency can use when developing a request for proposal (RFP) and can support delivery during an agency’s selection/procurement process of an RMS. In addition, technical assistance is offered to agencies that are interested in implementing the Information Exchange Package Documents (IEPDs) for RMS that LEITSC helped developed.

Records Management Surveys

These Technology Clearinghouse surveys have been completed by law enforcement agencies around the country. Each survey will provide you with background information on that particular agency's records management system (RMS) related project, including funding resources, hardware and software vendors utilized for that project as well as contact information for the individual who worked on the project. Some of the surveys may appear in other categories because they deal with various technologies and are not just limited to RMS.
