LEIM Section logo The IACP Law Enforcement Information Management Section (LEIM) brings together law enforcement practitioners to improve and facilitate the exchange of information and system interoperability within and across jurisdictional boundaries. LEIM key stakeholders include police chiefs, law enforcement executives, and technologists.

Award Recognition
Awards will be presented to the chief executive officer of each winning agency at the IACP's 33rd Annual Law Enforcement Information Management Section Annual Conference to be held at the Hyatt Regency in Dallas, Texas May 18-21, 2009. The winning agencies for each category receives a plaque and two complimentary registrations to the LEIM Conference. Travel and related expenses for the conference are the responsibility of the winners. The winners will be showcased in the Police Chief Magazine and other IACP membership forums.

Program Information

What is the IACP-iXP Excellence in Technology Award Program?

IACP and iXP logosThe IACP-iXP Excellence in Technology Award Program recognizes law enforcement agencies' superior achievement and innovation in the field of communication and information technology. This international award program is designed to recognize leading practices through solutions that benefit law enforcement as a profession and innovative implementation of common off-the-shelf hardware/software.

Award Categories
Achievements will be recognized in the following areas:

  • Innovation in Information Technology. This category highlights the achievement of an agency in implementing an innovative information technology that enhances the effectiveness of law enforcement.

  • Response to Computer Related Crime. This category recognizes an innovative or highly effective approach to computer-related crime, including programs and case-specific achievements by an agency, organization, or through collaborative efforts.

  • Excellence in Law Enforcement Communications and Interoperability. This category recognizes an agency's implementation of technology to improve mission critical voice communications, interoperability and/or information/data sharing.

Agency Size Competitive Categories
Four awards will be given in each category based upon number of sworn personnel. Agency size considered includes

  • Small: 50 or fewer sworn personnel
  • Medium: 51 to 200 sworn personnel
  • Large: 200+ sworn personnel
  • Regional/Multi Jurisdictional Organization: Any size

Notification of Winners: April 18, 2009

What are the Criteria and How are the Applications Judged?
Nominations may be made by any law enforcement agency. Applications will be judged by a panel of experts from IACP committees and/or the LEIM Section. There are five categories in which applicants will be judged. They include: (1) Technical Merit; (2) Innovativeness; (3) Effectiveness; (4) Ability to Replicate; and (5) Overall Impact. Four awards will be made annually for each of the three achievements. All applications should explicitly address these five categories.
