About Us

The Technology Clearinghouse, established in 1997 through a cooperative agreement between the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), quickly evolved to become the exclusive resource for objective law enforcement automated data collection and information management technology. The Technology Clearinghouse was originally proposed to be a restricted access subscription based Bulletin Board Service (BBS) technology, but instead became the first law enforcement information technology resource center available openly through the World Wide Web. Today the website receives over 3.6 million hits each year.

The Technology Clearinghouse has led efforts to inform law enforcement information technologists and police executives of advances in transportation related technology issues (importance of crash reports training video, minimum uniform crash criteria, ITS initiatives, CAPWIN, TRACS, etc.). In addition to online resources, the clearinghouse represents law enforcement at transportation and traffic safety venues, through publications, and presentations to thousands of law enforcement executives.

The Technology Clearinghouse is also the exclusive conduit for the Department of Transportation to address data collection, information management, and reporting requirements with law enforcement information technologists at all levels (users, first line supervisors, managers, technicians, and executives). The demographic composition of law enforcement agencies and IACP's membership insures that the Technology Clearinghouse message is heard by agencies of all sizes.

The Technology Clearinghouse is a forum to advance the interests of the FHWA on matters relating to conventional traffic enforcement, automated enforcement, data collection, commercial vehicle enforcement and many other areas of critical mutual interest.

The Technology Clearinghouse continues to add new information and developments regarding innovative law enforcement and transportation technologies, and to provide additional informational resources to assist practitioners within the law enforcement community. These areas include, but are not limited to:
